Corral

Walking through the streets of Corral was a weird feeling. The city is sort of being abandoned and you can see it. It feels like the paint is peeling. We followed a creek up to some small falls which provided altitude for a different vista of the bay from the other side to Niebla.

The Town hosts one of the five main forts that border the bay on all sides. Tucked between the short and densely tree covered hills behind and the bay in front, it has ‘southern logging town’ feel to it with its small wooden cottages and winding roads.

Meandering through the street on the way down, we found some hot chips on route to the bayside ‘strip’ or town square which is overlooked by the white-washed wooden municipality building which was blaring Enya from pole mounted speakers for the pleasure of all. The square wasn’t full, but it was busy, with many people milling, sitting or walking. This is a feature of Chile which I have recognised – parks and squares are occupied and busy much of the time which I think it great.
